Typical teenage thinking. Adults live in the real world.

It's cold as hell outside and I didn't see any Northern Lights.  I read the average lows in Stalingrad in January are around 14 F (-10C)...which is the same as here. The winter of 41-42 was extreme. The average low was -15 -20 F and dips of like -30F. That's as cold as it ever gets here. It's a miracle they could even get those shitty 1940's diesels to start in that shit. Nothing runs right when it's that cold. Who knows where they were sleeping or eating. Apparently they did recieve rations of amphetamines and liquor on both sides. That must have helped. I thought I read somewhere that one of the most highly regarded and elite Soviet units reknown for suffering low casualties was actually just a case of not reporting the massive number of deaths so they could recieve the dead mens'  rations of vodka. The commander was given a medal by Stalin and then shot because the ruse had been discovered but for public consumption, they still portrayed him as a hero for having rallied his non existent troops to such imaginary glory.  So on a scale of 1 to 10, one being Florida and ten being starving to death in the snow in Stalingrad, Michigan's at about a 1.25 right now. It's 70 in my livingroom.

The best winter I had in recent times was maybe five years ago. I started a new gig and in the first five minutes of the first day, I fell on the ice and broke my ankle. It was awesome. I took like two months off - shitty months - and the "workmans comp" people shipped me like 8 g's just for being me. It was a beautiful thing. Tells you how things go when my best luck is breaking my ankle. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Dog rescued from Detroit River ice after 4-hour operation near Grosse Ile

"The dog was moving on this sheet of ice and it was stopped by at least a small channel. We thought that maybe the drone could lure it back, and it kept going further east to the Canadian side,"

Firefighters also attempted to walk onto the ice while but determined conditions were too dangerous. Crews then brought in an airboat for the rescue operation.

"The problem is, between the drone and the firemen, the dog kept running away," Vazquez said.

Just as the drone's battery was running low and the airboat was preparing to return to shore, rescuers finally reached the dog."

"But it's a dry cold!" That's what my Mom, who often visited my cuz Mitzi in Lake Namakagon Wisconsin, would and still does tell me.

I have thought a time or ten about moving north but, cold.

-30 Oh gee. How do they survive. Love from Canada. Our freak warm spot is set to end Thursday but that pretty much means we have only Feb/March and it is done for another few months.

They used to say that when I lived in Tucson. It's 110 in the shade...but "dry".  Open your front door with a hangover into that and it blinds you.

What's going on? Is today MLK Day?  I thought yesterday was. Are we getting mail? I'm expecting a check.

Right now it is urgent to convince these animals that I am not the one controlling the weather. I'm catching  a vibe from them like they're blaming me for winter. I can't go outside eiher. January sucks.
