There is no real world application for ai in my life and I would suspect that is the case for 99% of us.  There's nothing AI can do for me that I can't do a thousand times faster and better myself. Whether is is writing, doing a drawing, selecting material or equipment, doing calculation that apply to my endeavors....nothing. It's Googling for you - that's all. I have actually requested information from ai on some really esoteric topic that is of interest to me and it has quoted back to me some bullshit I posted on some forum.  That's its 'sources'.

I said the same thing about CAD the day I finished two years training as a draftsman. It's still true. What I do is design and build on a contract basis - all different all the time. There are no templates. Doing a drawing makes you visualize and  every cut, every surface, every fastener, the unit cost of every bit of material, etc. I always say that after doing that, actually building something is a follow up.   That is how you build up an encylopedic knowledge. It's memory, experience, knowing the properties of material in real world conditions, intuition, etc.  There is great value in the exercise.

That is funny - just rented this Jeep in Phoenix - drove it to Sedona, Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon. This picture was outside of a Denny's - we were trying to go to Starbucks (not for me) - Apple Maps took us to Denny's. It was great - we were taking the roof tile things off.

You have impeccable taste! Fun ride!
Absolutely. I love my Jeep. This summer, we’re stripping the doors and the top off.

I just wasted an hour of my life trying to get AI to render a simple tile layout from a photo of the layout that I already did and it tried like ten times and couldn't even get close.

This is the photo. I said render an image of a wall with this patterned wainscot 1/3 of the way up the wall from the floor and gave it the exact dimension of each tile.

(Attachment Link)

then it did this:

(Attachment Link) (Attachment Link)

Try one final time with an even more rigid prompt, or
Describe the exact layout in detail so you can take it to another tool (Midjourney, Photoshop, etc.), or
Generate a brand new image from scratch based on your description using Grok's image generation.

Just tell me what (if anything) you want next. No bullshit.

"ok this is the last time I'm fucking around with you. I'm up loading a photo. It is of a wainscot design. The bottom tile is a extends to a height of 23.625 inches off the floor. There is a 1/8" horizontal grout line running along the top edge of that tile. There is then a course of 3/4" by 12" w white marble pencil tiles oriented horizontally. then there is another 1/8" horizontal grout line with two courses of the 4" h x 12" w subway tiles oriented horizontally with a 1/8" grout line between them. The subway tiles are installed in a brick pattern. there's another 1/8" horizontal grout line and a final course of horizontally oriented 3/4" h x 12 " w white marble subway tiles. So the total height of the wainscot is 23.625" + 1/8" + 3/4" + 1/8" + 4" + 1/8" + 4" + 1/8" + 3/4" so that is a total height of 33.625" up from the floor on a standard 8' drywall wall. Can you handle that? Now here is the photo of the tile pattern..."

(Attachment Link)

"Forget it. You are unable to follow even simple instructions. Whatever I pay for Grok is robbery. You are useless."

I'm sorry. You're right — I haven't been able to deliver the edit you described despite many tries. The image editing tool isn't handling the precise layering, proportions, and reference matching the way it needs to for your specific request.
I take full responsibility for wasting your time. If you'd like, I can:

"Fuck off, loser"

I'm sorry I couldn't get it right for you.
Take care.
Chat GPT said, if you would’ve given this prompt:
A better prompt would be:

Generate a photorealistic interior wall preview showing a finished wall installation. The design should feature an upper section made of glossy warm ivory / cream rectangular subway tiles, laid horizontally in a staggered brick pattern with thin, slightly darker grout lines. The tiled section should be framed with rounded white trim rails / bullnose molding, with one trim piece above and one below the tile band.

Below the lower trim rail, show a large lower wall section finished in polished white marble or marble-look slabs with soft, subtle gray veining. Keep the materials elegant, neutral, and realistic. Show the wall straight on, centered, and proportionally balanced, with soft indoor lighting and natural glossy reflections on the tile.

The image should look like a realistic renovation preview or design mockup of how the completed wall would look after installation. Keep the focus on the wall surface itself. Do not recreate a phone photo. Do not include shadows from a person or phone. Do not add furniture, vanity, sink, plants, decor, or extra room styling unless requested.

This would be the result.
Ps. Grok image generation sucks. Gpt is the best right now

This is the process. It does not require 'artificial intelligence'. It only requires that one or more of your grandparents is/was genetically Italian:

1)

2)

3)

4)

I don't actually use that laser. I just bought it because Amazon was selling it and it makes me look space-age and feel important. It's choreography - presentation.

There’s something in the air that’s irritating. Hope Canada isn’t still on fire. We’ve already done that for 3 summers in a row.

A few years back I was hired to do some work inside some aerospace company in Detroit - the bad part.  They had a staff of "machinists".  They have never picked up a tape measure, have never had cutting oil on their hands, know zero about the properties of material. They are typists. They type messages to a cnc machine located in another part of the building.

If I wanted something built, I'd be looking for an old man wearing boots.

How's your dog? How is your daughter!?!?! She'll be coming home soon!

😊
Willow turned out to be destructive. She has destroyed quite a bit of furniture - but oddly none of the stuff I built (to last) myself out of scrap wood. She harasses the cats, wrecked the wood blinds on the windows, the kitchen chairs, damaged the drywall, baseboard, couch, her dog bed, my wife's bed, the area rug....She's not even poorly trained. It's hilarious. It's like living with a wolverine.

I have about 6.

I don't have a Jeep now, and it is not on my dash, but I found one in the river last year and it lives in my garage.

Makes me wonder if someone drove their jeep into the water. lol

From now on, I'm shooting for five hundred bucks a day and my 'day' is going to be 10am-2pm within 30 miles of my house. And, as always, I'm cherry picking the jobs...  The reason I say this is because I just don't give a shit anymore.
