Our grandparents went from the horses to people walking on the Moon. Now we have robots fighting our wars and exploring the outer solar system, 24/7,  live feed from around the globe in our shirt pockets... Who knows what toddlers today will live to see ? Maybe we're better off dying.

I got covid and it was like a cold...not even a bad cold. I worked the whole time. But I know people that ended up in intensive care. Weird. I think it was a mistake to handle it the way it was handled but who knew? It kind of put me out of business but I was doing high volume work at low prices for big box stores and it was wrecking me and my equipment anyhow. I was relieved when the government shut us down. Then they started handing out all that money and here we are...broke and at war with ourselves.

Sometimes I look back and I think, holy shit, my generation lived through a lot of bullshit. There was the dot com bubble bursting, the savings and loan bit, the mortgage meltdown, the pandemic...  Fck! I've gone broke and bailed myself out a half dozen times over the past 30 years. But then I think about my grandfather or my parents. Two world wars, Korea, Vietnam, the Great Depression and many not-so-great depressions, the Flu Pandemic.... And before them it was something else....Scarlett Fever or Black Plague...

I guess the point is, even under the best of circumstances, being human is no trip to Hollywood all the time...unfortunately. I suppose it's better for us though than any preceding generations. We seem to live longer and generally live better. The disconnect is that maybe our expectations have exceeded our ability to attain them.
I know people nearby that can no longer eat red meats or dairy products, and Lyme disease, I've had thousands of ticks on me but of course I would considering I'm an outdoors adventurous person, I'm thrilled to be outside, I just love watching mother nature, but yes I understand your point and the cases are real, I'm not a people's person I'm an animal person, this day in age who knows what's next, you speak of the wars, I had family members there deep and they learned to cook, that's how I learned, ... Love the history, love the American flag, all red white and blue here

Damn, and I thought rain ruined our weekend....

"A woman died after being struck by a patio umbrella during strong winds at a lakeside South Carolina restaurant over Memorial Day weekend, officials said.

The incident occurred Saturday evening at a restaurant along Lake Marion in Summerton, authorities said.

The woman and her husband were dining on the restaurant's patio "when a sudden strong wind blew an umbrella from a table," striking the woman in the head and neck area, the Clarendon County Coroner's Office said in a statement.

First responders found the woman unresponsive with lacerations to her head and neck area, and she was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the coroner's office."

They want to build data centers here because Michigan has a pretty much unlimited supply of water and they somehow need that. The towships, municipalities, counties in these rural areas don't have the money to fight legal battles with Google and Amazon. So if one of these farmers gets offered double what his farm is worth and the towship tries to block it, they get lawyer-bombed. I hope mobs of vigilantes do  torch them. Fck all of this dystopian bullshit. If you think it's somehow going to make life better and more prosperous for anyone like any of us, you're delusional. This is just another way of streamlining the process of milking the underclasses for the absolute maximum profit.

"Starlink satellites currently account for approximately 65% of all active artificial satellites in orbit around Earth.According to aerospace tracking data, this immense constellation dominates near-Earth space with over 10,300 active spacecraft in operation.Constellation Breakdown:Total Active Satellites: ~16,000 active objects orbit Earth.Starlink Satellites: ~10,300+ belong to SpaceX."

You can't look through a telescope without catching satellites now. I don't even know what starlink does. It doesn't benefit me or anyone I have ever met. If it's related to the USA maintaining a qualitative military advantage over any and all potential rivals, I am pro-that, otherwise, it's just another reason to raise our phone bill and trash our view.

Extremism?   Seems very reasonable to me. The extremists are the one putting AI everywhere.

Cut off the "data" ceneters, cut down the flock camera's, hunt down the people who are finacing this evil

The real issue is that they want to build data centers everywhere. Far too many of them just for making AI kiddie porn, they have something else in mind and I bet all I have that we are not going to like it.

"Since the start of US-Israeli attacks in February, Tehran has essentially cut Iranians off from the web, reshaping the country’s economy in the process.

Authorities now plan to use hardware imported from China to permanently restrict access to the internet, allowing only tightly monitored access for a small number of users, RFE/RL reported, citing Iranian state media.

The latest moves come after WIRED reported last year that a Chinese company with close ties to state censors was selling its wares in Ethiopia, Myanmar, Kazakhstan, and Pakistan. “This is very frightening,” one researcher told the outlet."

There's no logical reason to be geeking up the infrastructure the way they are for GD talking dogs. This is dark...obviously...glaringly dark and dystopian.

It's crazy what's going on in my neighborhood. Maybe they're prepping for when we run out of oil. Maybe that's a more pressing reality than they are telling us...look at what's happening - invading Venezuela, wanting to take Greenland and Canada. Russia on the march, China claiming half of Asia as their territory...all these drones...it's getting nuts.

How long before drones just launch attacks at percieved threats autonomously that are initiated and controlled by ai ? Or is that already happening?
