We live in a high developed and supposedly enlightened society. But the fact is, really, that most of the human population lives in near paleolithic states. Sub-Saharan African was absolutely stone age until Europeans colonized. Nothing had been invented their beyond stone tools and mud huts...really.  The effects of giving them machine guns and rocket launchers is self explanatory. Without the internet, 90% of the world conflicts in this Century (since 2001) would NOT have happened. Radicals, perverts, criminal gangs and scam artists, would be revolutionaries, spies, fraudsters and terrorists....have made better use of the technology than any of us.
