Perry mason's side-kick, that private detective, was in real life Hedda Hopper's son. She was some kind of influential Hollywood gossip reporter or something. He served in what was a precursor to the Navy SEALS in WWII. I noticed he had a phone in his car back in the 50's (on the show). I wonder how that worked. Even when I was a kid no one except very important people had cell phones. They were as big as a shoe box, came with a backpack full of batteries, you got about 15 minutes of air time and if you went under a bridge the call dropped. I used to drive around with the phone out of my kitchen and if I pulled up to a stop light next to a good-looking girl, I'd pick up the receiver and pretend I was talking to someone. Then they would burst out laughing and speed off.
