I'm never going to Massachussettes either. That's just too easterly for me. The Irish side of my family is from "back East" (naturally). I suppose technically all of them were if they came through Ellis Island. I think the Italians had to use the service entrance though (the Irish were manning the gate). My direction of choice is north. It is the direction of White Flight and progress in Michigan. It's the path of least resistance. I am a Northerner...soy norteno.
