"Muti killings (also known as muti murders or ritual murders involving body parts for traditional medicine) remain a persistent and disturbing issue primarily in South Africa, though similar practices occur in other parts of southern and central Africa. These crimes often target vulnerable groups like children, women, and people with albinism, driven by beliefs that body parts (especially from live victims) confer power, wealth, protection, or success.Prevention efforts have been fragmented and largely ineffective in fully eradicating the problem, as cases continue to be reported into 2025–2026."
