This is a no-shit Michigan winter like when we were kids….

We have a few sea gulls that are permanent residents but every few winters the population dramatically increases. I reckon that happens when you get bad winters up there and they fly south looking for open water.

I guess we will see soon.

This is about it for looking at the sun with a "white light" filter - basically a welding shield for my telescope. A low-end hydrogen alpha is a grand but it probably doesn't do much. I'm sure the 7 thousand dollar H-alpha shows you something - if you are in a position and mental condition to spend 7 large on a telescope that's only good for looking at one star. If I had 7 grand, I'd buy some "top shelf" reefer and then just blow the rest paying bills and debt. I'm still counting on the powerball.

There's an old saying in astronomy: What my wife doesn't know won't kill me. 
Really, it'd be like $1200.  The grand is probably without the eyepiece and finder scope. Maybe more like $1500. Theoretically I could do this. Damn my daughter for sucking off vital resources from my nocturnal activities. College is a scam. She doesn't need that. I need an H-alpha.  This is going to be my inner quest - a private obsession.  I can do this.
