What do you want me to say?

Just keeping you well informed.  :D

When someone complains, you say, well hell. Even people in Florida are freezing their butts off.

"...Accountability for ICE and CBP
However bad you think the corruption and misconduct at ICE and CBP is — the reality is far far worse...

...Criminality is so rampant inside CBP that it has seen one of its own agents or officers arrested every 24 to 36 hours since 2005. CBP’s misconduct scandal is so long-running that today it would be old enough to drink.

In total, according to CBP’s own discipline reports, over the 20 years from 2005 to 2024 — the last year numbers are available — at least 4,913 CBP officers and Border Patrol agents have been arrested themselves, some multiple times. (In 2018 alone, a single CBP employee was arrested five times.) To put that number in perspective:

• The population of CBP agents and officers who have been arrested would make it roughly the nation’s fourth largest police department — equal to the size of the entire Philadelphia police.

• Indeed, for much of the 2010s and likely before and since, it appears the crime rate of CBP agents and offices was higher PER CAPITA than the crime rate of undocumented immigrants in the United States..."

However bad you think the corruption and misconduct at ICE and CBP is — the reality is far far worse.

It's nice to be up in the middle of the night with nowhere to go tomorrow. It's quiet. This is a peculiar age. It gets to a point where half or more of the people you know are dead and you're standing in the same line they were in. I've been speculating about that a lot lately. Too much time trapped in the cabin thinking about things. I hope things go the way I have it scripted in my head. We both stay healthy, I die first, not any time soon and at home. And then my wife lives with my daughter. Sounds like a damn fine plan but with a lot of really heavy wild cards.

The prefered method of addressing the matter of aging on the Italian side of my family is to do no doctoring, take no pills. Just live until you die. It's been a mixed bag. At the end of the day, this kind of thing is all that matters. Everything material becomes a burden to a greater or lesser degree. We're all reasonably healthy but that can change in a heartbeat and have catastrophic effects. It' that stage of life where the risk of that is becoming increasingly elevated.

Pretty much 80% of everything we own could be sold, given away or thrown out - mostly thrown out - and the results would be entirely positive. Nothing stacked up in a basement or barn is looking necessary these days. It's just more junk that has to be dealt with. I guess the goal is to make life less complicated to make room for new complications. I'd like to squeeze in 10 more years of work.

I had a similar plan, coasting into the grave,  my ex had different ideas. I wish you good luck with yours!

But it has prompted me to think about the next chapter and the old temptation to pick up and go is growing.

"...It took Trump barely a year to destroy the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. He fired its artistic board and staff, replaced them with stooges, drove away performers and audiences, decimated attendance, and pasted his name on the walls. Now, he's shutting it..."

Among the people I have no sympathy for....

How does anyone think building a house on stilts in the ocean is a good idea?
Can you even insure something so foolish?

Last time that happened they were explaining that when the homes were built they were 2-300 yards farther from the water.
That said, if they go down they need to stay down, no rebuilding in the same spot.

I wonder about the Malibu coast out in CA. They have long had a law that allowed only renovations, not new construction. (not that the law was not bent over double often, demo to floor and 1 wall) The big fire they had out there completely wiped out many homes, will they be allowed to rebuild?

This is the only reason I'd buy a couple of those robot vacuums

Several years ago I bought one as an Xmas present for my Mom. She thought it was the dumbest idea, until she started using it and then she fell in love with it.

Gen Z is becoming more conservative, according to a report from Morning Consult.

The June 2025 report found that Gen Z has become significantly more conservative, highlighting that the "youngest voting cohort has become 12 percentage points less likely to identify as liberal than in 2016, compared with a 5-point drop among the general population."

What a difference a few months can make.

"...Trump’s approval rating has “fallen off a cliff with Generation Z,” according to CNN’s chief data analyst.

Speaking on air on Wednesday, Harry Enten pointed to CBS News data showing it has fallen from +10 points one month into the administration in February 2025 to -32 points today..."

"..What the Trumpists are encountering in Minnesota is a community exhibiting exactly the kind of cohesion and solidarity across racial, cultural, and religious lines they claimed was impossible.

Nothing could be more terrifying to the blood-and-soil nationalists.."
