As the Sun sets over the dry plains of rural Texas, something unusual begins to happen inside a series of long metal buildings surrounded by empty land. One by one, giant roofs slowly roll open, exposing hundreds of telescopes pointed toward the night sky. Some belong to hobbyists in Europe. Others are controlled by astrophotographers in Asia or researchers in North America. None of them are physically there. Instead, the telescopes are operated remotely through the internet from thousands of kilometres away. What sounds like science fiction is part of a rapidly growing industry known as a “telescope ranch”, where astronomy, remote technology and some of the darkest skies in America are creating a new way to explore the universe.

I have been arrested more times than I can remember. Probably every single time I was drinking and causing trouble. When I’m smoking weed, trouble is the last thing I want. Everyone that’s done both knows exactly what I’m talking about.

I always felt as though we had a kind of special affinity with Russians. I spent a lot of time thinking about Russia and reading about it. I never hated them or even felt a slight bit of animosity toward them. I respected their respect for the game. The thing about the Russians that commands respect is that they are honest enough to not even pretend to expect you to believe them when they are lying to you. And they look you in the eye and smile when they don't expect you to believe them. You can't get that kind of raw truthfulness from the Chinese.  Those glorious Russians, if you weren't trading nuclear insults, we would have been drinking with them. They're actually a very attractive people. They are European. They are family. I miss them.

The dipshits in Western Europe pose more of a threat to global security by their willful neglect and self-loathing than Putin does. Western Civilization, which includes Christian Russia, has done more to advance humankind through invention, art, architecture, engineering, etc. than all other civilizations combined and multiplied by ten. This fashion of hating our own people, of blaming ourselves for all of the failures of humankind is repellantly inaccurate and ignorant. And the outsiders that blame us for their own shortcomings are merely resentful of our outsize success.  These truths we hold to be self-evident.

It's happening. This is the view out my dope-smoking window. As you can see, my vista is being tarnished by a trashy McMansion under construction. It's a war crime. I'm part of this too. I have made my money collaborating with the architects of this holocaust. I'm like a low-level SS storm trooper with a Jewish wife....or something like that. It's a moral quandary.

If you lived in WV there would be a mountain, or at least a hill, in between and you would never see it.

I'm thinking of planting some white pines between me and the vulgar horde.

I picked a couple off me, my clothing. Now, every time I itch or the wind blows, I think I got ticks on me. I hate going to sleep.
