I agree. Sunny, not warm but only a chill.  Broke out the death and dismemberment machine and cut the top of a tree that had fallen and was standing up, caught in another tree. Managed not to stick the chainsaw and also get out of the way when it can down. Probably should have had my hard hat on but not sure it would have helped.

Prepped new ax handles, got the varnish sanded off the handles so they will take oil, cleaned and sharpened the heads and got one head on. Apparently steel wedges for mounting ax heads are not a hot item.  Out of 3 stores only one store had 1 set.  Not long ago there would be a bucket of the things on the counter of every hardware store, grab a handful and give them $2. Not anymore.

Started coating the new ax handle with linseed oil, once a day for a week, once a week for a month, once a month for a year, and oiled up the handles on my other implements of yard destruction.

That was all I got done today, hope to get back down on the river bank tomorrow and start cleaning up the brand new mess the river brought me. Looking to be at least 2 more big black trash bags full. Be lucky if it is not 3.

Wow! The acquisition of the company I work for made it through a regulatory process in Congress. I found out Friday. We had an All Hands yesterday - and Day 1 is next Monday. They took down every trace of branding for the old company and put up the branding for the new company. When I drove up to my building they had tamed. Our sign and out what I've called a toaster cover over it with the new name. More emotional than anything. Other than that a very busy day.

I've had a 4 decade long love affair with the company I worked for. I applied for a job there when I was in my early 20's only to not get the job...not realizing that being a Program Manager needed a lot more experience than I had.
