Watching some war video it appears that russia is trying to go back to larger mechanized attacks. They haven't learned and the results are predictable.
Quantity is a factor by itself. In many of the battles won by the Soviets against the Nazis, the Soviets suffered the most casualties. They won by greatly outnumbering the Nazis.
