Nope, those folks, a whole lot of them, pretty much the whole republican party right down to the voters, endlessly repeated that lie even after it was investigated it and no evidence found.  I heard 20 mins of Sean one evening and I think he repeated it 15 times in that 20.    If I am not mistaken, I think you did so as well.

"By" means "tending opposite the prevailing wind", and "large" means "tending with the prevailing wind".

So, "by and large" means "no matter which way your ship is headed relative to the wind".
