"Michigan's minimum wage jumped from $12.48 to $13.73 per hour on Jan. 1, marking a significant increase that has workers celebrating while some restaurant owners express concerns about rising operational costs.... tipped employees also seeing their base pay rise to $5.49 per hour, representing 40% of the minimum wage."
Beginning in like 1992, I was paying my tipped employees, $8.00 when minimum was $3.35 and tipped was $2.13 - plus a Christmas bonus, two weeks paid off, their birthday paid off, IRA and I bought dinner or lunch for everyone every shift. I probably made less than they did.
