It's going to be clear and fairly warm tonight. That's telescope weather.

There was like one year maybe when I was in high school that Peter Frampton released one big album, was playing stadiums and then he disappeared.

I got this telescope last October and have never used it because that's what happens here in the winter. It's like being on a different planet where everything is dark, frozen and covered with salt residue...and the skies are cloudy all day...for like 18 months.

It's a tiny 80 mm (3 1/8") apochromatic refractor. I've never used a telescope like this before. It has a really wide field of view and great image quality. There's no motors, no electronics; just light, glass and reefer madness - the same  shit Galileo was doing at 3 in the morning. I'm going to put a giant 2" Coke-can eyepiece on it and it'll be like looking out the window of a spaceship.

It's beautiful. I admire it more than I use it, kind of like a classic car that never gets driven...only like one-one-millionth the price and hassle. It's not even astronomy. It's just nocturnal telescope appreciation.

China is kicking ass with inexpensive high quality consumer telescopes and equipment. Two huge American companies went under and now China owns the market but they're putting out some really revolutionary imaging stuff and decent telescopes for half the price...a quarter.  It reminds me of when I was a kid. "Made in Japan" was kind of a joke. It was like "Made in China" now.  And now made in Japan is elite quality and engineering. Perhaps it was the radiation what done it.

It hurts me to see the Chinese excel at anything except being despicable. Call me old fashioned, but I think the Russians were/are a far far better class of people to compare to. It's easy to imagine Russians being just like us. You could see us being friends, marrying them, etc. - even back then. But the GD Chinese are reptilian. You can't even relate to them. Only the US and Russia should be allowed to have nuclear weapons and submarines. No one else can be trusted.

And by "us and Russia" I mean our respective blocs...whoever they might be these days. Christ. If there were a draft like the NFL, they'd have to force us to take France and England. And who's Russia got these days? that dork in Belarus, and who? The Chinese pander to anyone they're doing business with despite any ideological window-dressing. They're whores.

The State of AI

I just typed in "Screw the UN" to Google to get an inflammatory image and this is what the response was:

"If "the UN" you are trying to screw (or loosen) is a stuck or stripped Unified Thread Standard (UN) fastener, getting it out quickly depends on how damaged the head is. Standard threads loosen by turning counter-clockwise (righty-tighty, lefty-loosey).For stubborn or stripped bolts and screws, use these methods ranked by ease:The Rubber Band Trick: Place a wide rubber band over the stripped head to provide traction. Press down firmly with a properly fitting screwdriver and turn counter-clockwise slowly.Impact Driver: If the head isn't entirely stripped, use a manual impact driver. Strike the back of the tool with a hammer; it simultaneously pushes down and twists the screw to break it loose.Screw Extractor: For severely stripped heads, drill a small pilot hole into the screw, insert a spiral screw extractor bit, and use a drill on low-speed reverse to back it out.Cut a Slot: Use a rotary tool (like a Dremel) with a metal cutting wheel to slice a straight line across the top of the damaged screw head. Then, use a flat-head screwdriver to easily unscrew it."

No...actually I was thinking more along these lines:

...as in reject globalism.

Haven't been trying or attempting to make jokes... Had a few deaths nearby like Mark, I'm not in a joking mood.
