Jesus Christ. I bought another telescope yesterday. It's like a mental problem with me. I don't even want to look through them. I'm like one of those old weirdos that has a bunch of really nice old cars in a barn somewhere that he never drives, just sits on an upturned bucket and stares at them, marvelling at how beautiful they are and how precise the engineering is. Except I don't have GTO money so I'm doing this. Got myself a small crystal-clear wide-field triplet apochromatic refractor to compliment my classic Celestron C5 Schmidt-Cassegrain. Those are both small, light telescopes that have really sharp images. One for wide, "immersive" "spacewalk" viewing with huge eyepieces and the other for close up on the Moon and planets. After years of screwing around trying to get the biggest I could afford, I reached the same conclusion as I did with tools and job site equipment. Carrying shit up and down stairs precipitates innovative thought. This is perfect. I have a small reflector and a small refractor on well-built, medium-duty, manual alt-az mounts. That's as clean as it gets. No motors, no 'apps', no gps, no laptop, no keypad. Just light and glass.
