They just blithely assumed that because he was nominated, then surely he must be a reasonable candidate (despite his former cabinet telling everyone he was horrible and incompetent and corrupt). Surely he'd appoint people that know what they're doing, etc (despite him fucking telling everyone he was going to pick sycophants and toadies).

People need to own up to having been taken for a ride, and realize that they can't trust the Republican party/voters to pick someone who's competent or responsible anymore, nor can they trust that Republicans will keep an out of control President in check. The ultimate aim of the Republican party since basically Watergate has been to remove any and all controls on a Republican President, while undermining any and all actions by the Democrats. This is not the least bit sustainable in a democracy/republic, and the Republican party needs to be purged of those enablers at minimum, or perhaps even replaced by an actual conservative (rather than Reactionary) party entirely.."
