That's where my son met his wife. Both Americans living in Jerusalem. He had converted.
It's a weird place. I was drinking at some sidewalk cafe and I had a pack of American cigarettes. One of the soldiers came and started talking to me and said he was an American from New York and that as a Jew he was eligible to serve in the IDF. So I gave him cigarettes. That seemed to be the most popular thing about Americans...the quality of our cigarettes. But I'm on board with being rabidly pro-Israel. Being surrounded by ethnic and religious hostility is very-Detroit-ish. I feel their pain.
