Why the hell would Hamas attack Israel knowing they were going to lose DISASTROUSLY? Why would Iran encourage that? My guess is is that Iran miscalculated the intensity of the Israeli response. And Hamas obviously did too.
And I also think Hamas didn't expect their own attack to go as well as it did.
Which would have led them to underestimate the Israeli response. Had they known they were going to successfully kill 1500 Israelis , they'd have known damn well that Israel would viciously retaliate
