I'm going to plant some more weed and then move it outside. But I don't know where I can put it where the chickens won't mess with it.

I used old pallets as a fence works pretty good and it's cheap.

I secretly wish a predatory animal would come here and remove the burden that these chickens pose.

I used old pallets as a fence works pretty good and it's cheap.

Around here the farmers use them in the creeks to keep the cows in, fasten the tops to a cable strung between fence posts and when the creek rises they float up and out of the way of the water then back when the water drops. Most of the time the high water debris slides under and doesn't pile up against the pallets.

Is that like a Texas gate but for water crossings?

Yes, sort of similar.  Many of the small creeks here have steep banks ---u--- The pallets carry the fence across the creek while allowing high water and debris to pass under them as the float up, a regular wire fence would catch much of the debris and then fail.  Cows are big but not overly bright, most times the pallets bluff them. The look like a wall so the cows think they are one.

An old farmer I used to know always said the same about barbed wire fences, that they are just a bluff and a large cow can breach them IF they take a notion. But most times the cattle don't realize it.

This is a fancy and more expensive version on a bigger creek but it is the same idea.

Smart. We like the animal fences in Alberta. Stops the irresponsible drivers.

They have some beautiful sunsets and sunrises here.
