A third of the children in the 1800's didn't make it to 5.  Fortunately, dead babies made excellent subjects for post mortem photography, which was the fashion in those days.

Here we are at the beach...mom, sis and dead baby.
Victorians were really weird.

They’ve been tearing down the older houses in my neighbourhood and putting up tons of infills. They start at over a million. It’s ridiculous. I couldn’t afford to live here in any way if I had to buy now. These are not huge houses either.

Is that, in your mind, supposed to be bad?
Your mind’s in the standing figure’s joystick obviously.

I had a mate (now deceased) in Charlotte NC, who made a darn good living tearing down perfectly good older homes so Mcmansions could be built on the lots.

As we speak, my little brother is having trouble selling his for the 800+K he was asking. Last I heard he was down to 750K and not even a nibble. I reckon 650K is where he needs to be on it, maybe a 600K sale. --I would not give 300K for it. lol

Well, I am old but not that old.  And I am happy to return the favor.

As a young teenage boy, that was my secret weapon.

most of the new ones here come with fully developed basements. I have roughed in plumbing if I ever win the lottery to develop. The big thing is they have heated floors on every level. That is a key selling point but still way overpriced. My place is about 1700 square feet. The million dollar ones are the same size. I would expect more for that kind of money. Also, for some reason we are getting carrots from the U.S. here and they go bad in about 3 days. Like weird shit. I had a bag turn black. Turns out they were infected with salmonella. This last weekend I pulled out a bag I had bought only 3 days before and they were covered with some weird white fungus. It looked like they had been dipped in Elmer’s glue.

It depends on where you are but, in general, I have noticed that buyers at that level expect a lot.
