My bet was that I wouldn't need the snow blower this year.  Denial...not just a river in Egypt.

""Haru urara"  ~  The biggest loser in Japan!  🏇🏇🏇

She was a Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse who competed from 1998 to 2004, retiring with an official record of 113 starts—and never winning a race!

Her career earnings were modest at Ą1,129,000. Her remarkable losing streak gained widespread attention in 2003, particularly after she reached her 80th consecutive loss in June of that year. Japanese national media picked up the story during a period of economic challenges and social struggles in the country, turning her into a beloved national figure.

She became known as the "shining star of losers everywhere" and a powerful symbol of perseverance, tenacity, and never giving up despite repeated defeats.

"Fans flocked to her races (sometimes drawing crowds of over 10,000–13,000 at smaller tracks, bought her losing betting tickets as good-luck charms (believed to ward off accidents or bring safety), and found inspiration in her relentless effort.

Even the Japanese Prime Minister at the time commented on her, and top jockeys rode her. Her story resonated as an underdog tale of endurance!

(Note: Haru Urara passed away on September 9, 2025, at age 29, which renewed interest in her legacy, including her influence on characters in media like Umamusume: Pretty Derby.)"

Perhaps the more salients facts are that despite everything we have never missed a meal, run out of gas, had the power turned off or been evicted and we have all always had adequate medical coverage. But we're all also relatively healthy. My daughter and I were both hospitalized during our lives for "pneumonia" (code for: seizing and opportunity to generate billing), which, in both instances, was unnecessary. But our healthcare system is profit-driven, therefore sales override healing. Also my wife was in the hospital when she gave birth...which was utterly disgusting and probably cost 20 g's. None of that cost me a dime. I guess this IS Middle Class.

There's no crime where I live. There's no violence or hate. It's really wonderful. So when people shit-talk America about the crime, rioting, blight....that's the OTHER America. It doesn't concern people like me. I myself and those of whom I am among are the direct progeny of Europe's best and brightest. That is a fact. I've studied this my whole life - lived it. Euro-Americans are the absolute pinnacle of human evolution. It's astounding how stark that is too. The contributions of a tiny sliver of the human population in a very recent fraction of human history have wrought so much advance.

Realistically, setting aside any petty complaints, we live better than probably 90% of the world population; probably even better than most Europeans. The shit we talk about - the blight, street crime, war, hate, violence, brutality, privation and hardship...exist for us only in the media. It is safe, clean and relatively prosperous here. We have top-rate educations, better access to healthy food and clean water than anyplace on Earth...and we have living space.  America's a big and beautiful country. I'm glad to be part of it, hope y'all are too.

We shouldn't feel guilty about being more advanced. We don't owe an apology to anyone for being who we are, neither are we obligated to let them flood into our superior societies. This isn't a new phenomenon. Dating back to prehistory, our clade has always had a quantifiable advantage over other subspecies. We have been wildly more adaptable to the environment, more intelligent and intuitive going back half a million years. That's a fact. While of course our advanced intelectual facilities dictate compassion for the less fortunate, it's unwise to put our own societies in peril for that pursuit. Importing millions of Third World migrants is necessarily  a net loss for us. The generalized effect is to bring down our averages, dilute our resources and increase social dysfunction on whole. That's obvious. It's not a matter of theory or conjecture, it's a glaringly easy effect to observe directly.
