It sucks that the sky is crystal clear too. Super cold stable air. Like being on a spaceship. Orion is front and center and that's the star of the show. But that's best served on a night when it won't necessarily kill you. Back in the fall, I spent an awful lot of time researching and a shitload of money I didn't have putting together this really bitching small but really high image quality wide field 85mm apochromatic refractor, which was something I have been working up to for 30 years and I have not been able to use it once. It's a work of art. Giant eyepieces the size of beer cans. Having telescopes is like having boats, only they don't take up as much room. There's a lot more time that you can't use them than when you can.
I don't do much start gazing anymore but I could use some good optics for scanning the river. My binocs will show you birds and such on the other side but not in any detail.
Which BTW, has huge sheets of ice floating down it right now, like 1/2 acre size. One after another.
