Do young kids today even know about Berlin walls?

The host of this forum (smfnew) made some really unfavorable changes.

Like what?

You can no longer change the size, color or boldness of the fonts used in posts or edits. Also, you can no longer post in-line full-size attachments.

And from my end, in order to keep the forum ad free, I can no longer buy "ad-free" credits based on the number of views...or whatever. Now I have to sign-up for a monthly subscription...it's not much but it's just another automatic payment I have to monitor.

Hopefully it is a temporary glitch.

Yeah, I noticed the boards were unavailable for a while yest and came back missing buttons. Then buttons came back last night, now gone again.

I've become really disillusioned with everything online. It's 99% rubbish now...X, Youtube, Tick Tock...it's all the same. Bullshit scroll-through nonsense with not even a flimsy connection to reality or truthful content.

They have coined a word for that, enshitification.

Apple, Google, it all sucks. Every time I click on a headline that interests me, a subscription page or pay wall pops up. There is very little online that I would consider paying even a small amount for.

You might also have noticed that most things, radical right wing, have no pay walls.   That is not an accident.

Like everything else - they are charging you more and giving you less than before.  Everything's like that. Saltine crackers are thinner and the sleeves are shorter than the box they come in. Potato chips, etc, you open the bag and it's 3/4's air. It's ridiculous. My electric bill doubled and the power fails twice as often.

I thought I just typed a post, either today or last night saying how things have become progressively worse.  When I was a kid, one income per household  was enough, houses were 100 grand, cars were 15 and medical insurance and schooling wasn't prohibitively expensive.

People that work full time need food stamps and medicare now.  It can't continue on this path or we will all be wards of the state....and maybe that's what they want.

Remember banks used to pay interest instead of levying service fees?

Goes to what I have been saying, everything is a scam, everyone is a criminal now. Even the stock markets, they have just become casinos where you don't invest, you gamble, often against computers.
Other than the motorcycles, there is little sense in being an outlaw biker now days, the folks in suits are more outlaw.

"...Enshittification, also known as crapification and platform decay, is a pattern in which two-sided online products and services decline in quality over time. Initially, vendors create high-quality offerings to attract users, then they degrade those offerings to better serve business customers (such as advertisers), and finally degrade their services to users and business customers to maximize short-term profits for shareholders.

Nailed it. His examples are superb. I don’t use Facebook products anymore (I guess I’m supposed to call it Meta) because of how awful they are and how awful the company is (oops – yes – I have WhatsApp on my phone because several people in my world insist on using it, but it mostly just sits dormant for me.) I am so exhausted by Amazon and its endless quest for more margin from everyone, including all the companies that it depends on to be useful. Google is “entertaining” to me as they systematically destroy so many companies that enabled them to be amazing in the quest to become an AI company. TwitterX bwahaahahaha. And I don’t even want to bother with the enshittification of so many other things in the tech world that Cory doesn’t touch on but that fit within his thesis..."

Apparently some functions work on an iPad, but not a desk top. This is getting to be way more hassle than it’s worth.

Not sure what the host is going for or if this shite is just a symptom of a fuck up.  Folks just can't leave well enough alone. I can't think of the last time an "improvement" made anything better.

A few years back, the only million dollar houses around here were mansions on the lake and people like the Fords lived in them. Now, the bullshit plated-door-knob McMansions I trim are a million bucks a copy. They're poorly built, on tiny lots and they put them together in 2 weeks. What's the payment on a million dollar house? 10 g's a month?  That's Michigan.  I can't even guess what it would cost in California or Hawaii.
It’s ridiculous. The Indians just finished building a semi detached a couple of doors down. They are listed at 1.5 million each. There is a contractor here who goes to open houses and uploads videos of all the mistakes. He said any home built by these Indians is built like shit. He filmed one place that was over a million. They used deck screws to hang the doors. Also I can’t get back on. I need a new password but the email link isn’t working.p
