This is an odd fact. I don't know my daughter's phone number but I still have the phone number to my friend's parent's house in 1976 memorized. I should call it and see if they answer from the great beyond.

I did a bathroom for this old lady down in Grosse Pointe a couple of years ago. She was a doctor. I asked her for her cell phone number and she told me she only had a land line and an answering machine - I said "God bless you, Madame". I bet she was a good doctor too...white anyhow.

So anyway they found cancer tumors in my esophagus when they did the endoscopy yesterday. Fortunately hasn't spread and caught them VERY EARLY so looks like I got lucky.

She should read Ted Kazcynski's 'manifesto'.  As soon as I can scrape together the money, I'm building a shack out back.
I'm dropping-out... opting-out.

I don't know why I've become obsessed with getting old...maybe because I'm there. The biological aspects aside, there is a life's worth of accumulated sorrow as most of the people you ever knew or cared about have died. It adds up. Every friend, family member, pet that dies takes a chunk out of you. And when you die, the world goes on without you. There will be no one left to notice except one or two people. You come to the realization that everything you spent your life chasing is meaningless.   For me, the most important thing now is to die before my wife...but not for a while.

Turks have a weird obsession with feeding stray cats and dogs. That is perhaps their only redeeming quality.

"California is dealing with what experts describe as the largest known outbreak of deadly mushroom poisonings in U.S. history, with 47 confirmed cases since November, four deaths and at least four illnesses that required liver transplants"

"Most illnesses are linked to amatoxin-containing mushrooms, including death caps (Amanita phalloides) and western destroying angels (Amanita ocreata), both highly toxic species that can closely resemble edible mushrooms."

There is a lesson here about collecting and consuming fungus growing in the forest.

Human beings were not meant to eat shit growing on rotting logs. We can handily assume that when people that lack this small but important bit of common sense perish, the kind offices of Natural Selection are attending to evolution's holy work.

I love technology, but I turn my phone off and leave it on the table. I figure if my family wants to call me because someone died, they’ll be still dead in the morning.

That's the only time anyone in my family contacts me

"Patients range from infants as young as 19 months to adults in their 80s. Officials also report that many affected individuals speak Spanish, Mandarin, Russian, Ukrainian, Mam and Mixteco (Mayans), highlighting the role of multilingual outreach in prevention efforts.

Health experts said some poisonings may stem from traditional foraging practices brought from other countries, where similar looking mushrooms may be edible."

...once again, they are eating fungus....neither plant nor animal.

Perhaps if one has 'black mold' growing in their cellar, they would prefer that as a topping for their salads. Same train of thought, same Kingdom.
