I'm against it. Not in a Unabomber kind of way but a Winston Smith kind of way.

Here's what I have noticed. Google...along with everything else, is now not just a search engine as such. Everything is now "ai" as well. So Google, we can presume, is now many times more intrusive now than it already was. So among the trillions of querries, transactions, posts, like, porn, scams, whatever...there is ai at the center directing traffic and tapping phones. Kroger scans my card... they'd knw if I bought liquor and so would my insuraance company...or if I'm eating too much fat and have a family history of heart disease...or something like that.

I never have cash anymore, I haven't been in the inside of bank since before the pandemic. Tafic ams, 'Ring' doorbells....they track your cars, your phones..... wow.

Yes, you can't escape it but you can minimize it.  I only use cash for any sensitive purchase for instance.

I reckon that surveillance is the actual use for these data centers. Remember that social credit thing China is doing?

They will tie everything into the data centers then claim that they are too important to do away with. Hide and watch.

I'm telling you this not because I read about it or I saw it on tv. It's happening to me and my neighbor's right now. The politicians, the utility companies, the data moguls are all on tv, the internet, newspapers saying they aren't raising rates, sucking water or destroying property values, but they are. It's happening right in front of us. They are bulldozing corrnfields, erecting 100 foot tall poles that are 4 feet in diameter on people's front lawns, next to their driveways, nobody asked, nobody notified anyone...nothing. They just set up camp on a vacant lot with a mobile office and brought in a hundred big cherry picker trucks and piles of those giant poles.
Down the road, they doubled or quadrupled the size of all the power terminals and transformer stations.  Lying to our faces. There isn't a fckng thing we can do about it.  Now I wonder if farmers will even be able to draw groundwater when that thing is up.

As teens, me and mine kept on of the last patches of wooded area in the neighborhood construction free for years. 3 different developers tried, all 3 failed.  Depends on how far the locals are willing to go.

Plus we're going to run out of oil. Solar is the only really sustainable power source for the planet on a really long term basis because it's the source of all energy here, it's eternal for all practical purposes and it's free.
The only things un-solar are nuclear, geo...and tides. Everything else came from the sun originally. That's like the Star Trek era future for our energy needs.

It would be nice if all this spectacular technology would go toward living in a peaceful and unified world with free energy and healthcare  for everyone, a guaranteed basic income and safe and secure living quarters like it is portrayed in the pro-ai fantasy reels. The reality is that people are corrupt and ai means high school kids are make porn of their classmates, criminals are faking video and audio to squindle or blackmail, and, of course, the military is amping it up on a scale of our nuclear programs.  For us? not much....fifty jobs sweeping the floor at the data center, 50,000 at the 'fulfillment center' - none pay enough to live on. People are corrupt. There will always be a fixed percentage among us that are sociopathic and will lie, cheat and steal to get more than their fellows. That's why it never works...among villages or nations.

Politics does matter and supporting the current crop of republicans gets us no closer to where we want to be. In fact it sets us back decades.

I went down to some Catholic "grotto" in Detroit and tried to get an exorcism back in the 80's. Boy...did that turn out weird. I don't know what the word "grotto" means.

In different times nothing about what's going on now would worry me. I don't have any money but I have my health and the means by which to earn money and all the bills get paid all the time. It's just a lot harder sometimes than others. Back in the 90's money was  flowing like a river for guys like me and I got to dip my bucket plenty. So here we are. But back then, no one was ever talking about healthcare, gas prices, border crashers or fckng muslims because none of that shit was going on. We were just doing what we were doing - working our hustles. It was so easy to go into business. It took like a day or two. I built that cafe, had it open and people lined up around the block 30 days after I signed the lease. That's all it took...a handshake and an angle. Never ever did I worry for a minute about my ability to generate an income. But now, I just doubt I can generate enough and I'm aging.
