There's nothing wrong with that. In elementary school, we learned to sing Battle Hymn of the Republic and Dixie and there was zero stigma. It was included in the genre of patriotic songs. There was no stigma attached to it. The Civil War was presented as brother-against-brother and that is still the way I view it. It is ridiculous to  apply this absurd 'woke' bullshit to 160-year-old culture for the purposes of retroactively "cancelling" people and artifacts of Americana.  The Southerners that wish to do so have every right to "celebrate" their heritage as any of us. This need to suppress and edit history is ugly and hateful.

I remember singing the Battle Hymn of the Republic somewhere. I don't remember which school it was.

I don't disagree with what you said. The problem with playing Dixie instead of the national anthem when the TV went off the air is it was done during the time of Jim Crow laws. A time when the south was being pressured to integrate the schools. Eisenhower had sent troops to Little Rock, Ark,  a little before then. I walked past the black school and the white school before a reached my Catholic school.
