When I was a little kid in grade school (in Michigan), we had a music class where we all had to learn to sing patriotic songs. We learned Battle Hymn of the Republic and Dixie. We were always taught the Confederates were as patriotic as the Union and they were heroes too. I still believe that.

We had to recite The Lords Prayer followed by Oh Canada and God Save the Queen. It was normal.
