In interracial violent crimes between Black and White Americans, Black offenders against White victims occur substantially more often than White offenders against Black victims. This holds for nonfatal violent crimes (via National Crime Victimization Survey/NCVS data, based on victim reports) and homicide (via FBI data). Most violent crime overall is intraracial, but among interracial incidents, the pattern is asymmetric


Accounting for population sizes (per capita), Black Americans offend against White victims in interracial violent crimes at roughly 13–18 times the rate that White Americans offend against Black victims.
