Direct cremation: Typically $1,800 – $3,000 total (sometimes as low as $1,300–$2,000 if you shop around).
This includes pickup of the body, paperwork, the cremation itself, and return of the ashes in a basic container.

The body is placed in a basic cardboard cremation container (sometimes called an alternative container). This is required by the crematory, but it is very cheap (usually included in the package or costs $50–$150).
