This may not be universal, maybe it's climate related or hydrology. Anyhow, around here, you have to put the casket inside a concrete "vault". The guy that produces and sells septic tanks also produces and sells the vaults, which in and of itself tells you a lot. It's all bad. And you have to have flat grave stones now so Mexicans can drive over your final resting place in lawnmowers without having to weed whack.

.....all the sudden my skull idea doesn't sound so bad, huh?

NOTE: For my information and posterities sake: This is what I do at 4:30 am when I run out of weed - you know, instead of like sleeping.

"Reports from HMP Armley indicate that Vikrum Digwa, the murderer of Henry Nowak, has been attacked. Another inmate has reportedly thrown a mixture of sugar and boiling water into Digwa’s face, causing severe burns.

This method of attack is not uncommon in prisons; the sugar ensures that the mixture adheres to the victim, increasing the severity of the injuries....  "

.... hopefully just the beginning of the fiend's torture.

The one behind the guy with an arm band looks like he's too young to be there.

There is a cemetery in Cinnaminson NJ with no grave stones that is a coveted location for wedding pictures. That seems to be an appropriate location for wedding pictures.

Texas Colorado and Florida lead the league in tornados.  Seems unfair to Florida, what with hurricanes being the elephant in the room. I haven't been to Florida in 20 years. I used to go down there a couple times a year. It's crowded. Of course, I was always in the wrong part of Florida...nothing but bars and boats...same as the part of  Michigan I lived in just hotter.
It's not for me. Some how I think all these animals and mowing the lawn will keep me alive longer.  Eventually winter's going to kill me, it's just a question of when.

".... a healthy 60‑year‑old woman today has more than a 50% chance of living to 90 and roughly a one‑in‑three chance of reaching 95; men aren't far behind...."

I was guessing 83. That was/is my plan. I don't know where or when I arrived at that number.

Our system was designed for shorter lives.  Young people can't afford to buy houses, old people can't afford to sell houses.

If I'm ever faced with an enormously expensive medical crisis, I'm going to have to solve it with a bullet. That's better than letting the state take everything we have because hospital stays are 100k a week.

I had to call Florida paramedics from my house in Michigan and get on a plane. When I got there, there was a bootprint on the door where the cop kicked it open because my dad was refusing medical treatment after having a stroke. 8 grand for a medical plane to bring him back to Michigan so he could take his last breath in his own bed.  That wasn't too bad..... My mom outlived him by 25 years....THAT was expensive....assisted living and then the "memory unit" - which is a house of horrors.  That's not for me.

My mom died during the pandemic -- and that was weird...and sad...for a lot of people everywhere. Fck. That's how it ends. The next day, it's like you never existed at all.

I set-up my life when I was in my late twenties to be able to live like a stable Middle Class life on no more than 2 g's a month.. Most of my life I could have lived on half that. My wife and kid are big consumers of resources. They have skewed my paradigm. Man. When I was single, I didn't give a fck about anything. I had a dog, a pistol and a duffel bag full of dirty clothes. Man...that was living. Back then if I didn't like what was happening, I'd just leave... Walking out on your own life is a fabulous option to have if you can swing it. Unfortunately it no longer works.

Direct creamation - like a grand. They send you home in a coffee can. No weeping, no flowers.

"Direct cremation: Typically $1,800 – $3,000 total (sometimes as low as $1,300–$2,000 if you shop around).
This includes pickup of the body, paperwork, the cremation itself, and return of the ashes in a basic container.

The body is placed in a basic cardboard cremation container (sometimes called an alternative container). This is required by the crematory, but it is very cheap (usually included in the package or costs $50–$150)."

That sounds like a decent business. I wonder what the start-up costs are. You probably have to have some kind of a license and it's regulated heavily.  Government takes the fun out of everything. Man that's a great business model...a furnace, a rented building, a van, gas bill and a never-ending pipeline of sales. I can be somber. I may have a very soothing presence for all I know. Stray cats seem to think so.

We had a Sicilian funeral director in our extended family - You wouldn't believe the shit that guy got away with. They must have tightened that up.

I saw an episode of that cop show with Vincent D'onofrio where Jim Gaffigan was charging for cremations and throwing the bodies in a hole.

My mother wanted to be cremated. It gave me the creeps. You're holding a jar and your mother is in it.
