"..Listening in to a meeting of radio astronomers: direct-to-cell satellites are SO BRIGHT that even though they're following the rules and broadcasting in their allocated bands, they destroy astronomical observations across a huge swath of frequencies.

Radio telescopes were designed to operate in remote place far from cell towers.  Now the cell towers are directly overhead, blasting into the incredibly sensitive detectors. Yet another way we're losing our window to the stars: bye bye SETI.."

As of late October 2025, there are over 8,800 Starlink satellites in orbit, with approximately 8,795 considered operational. This number is constantly changing due to ongoing launches and some satellites deorbiting at the end of their lifespan.

Any time I take long exposures of deep sky, there's satellite tracks criss-crossing it.

It's pretty dark here. I can see dozens satellites whizzing by all night just looking up. There's a cloud of trash out there travelling at 20,000 mph

I saw a video of that the other day, I should have posted it here. The satellites ruined the time lapse.

They are bringing those “Waymo” cars that have no driver to Detroit. That’s going to be hilarious. I want to see how the ones that don’t get jacked drive on ice

It's going to be impossible to take wide angle photos without satellite trails.

There was a few in this photo but I washed them out by darkening the image after.

Heard of the new Tesla self driving update called Mad Max mode?   Apparently, it just drives like a manic, running red lights, speeding, and swerving through traffic

Ever wonder how many "people" are out there taking pics of you like that?

I'm sure a lot of those satellites I'm recording have a lot better optics looking down than I have looking up.

The older satellites were a LARGER version of the Hubble space telescope only pointed at your house from 350 miles up.  Those are the 50-year-old models that are widely known about and the're terrifying. The new ones combine radar imaging so they can basically see through smoke, foliage etc.  I'm sure all of the UFO's that our military has reported seeing...those "orbs" are US devices. It's physically impossible for 'aliens' to visit our solar system and no other country on Earth has anything close to the technology that the US military and space programs have. If those were foreign, they'd be shooting at them.
